You’ll be in good company with tour guide Barney, a chef from RMS Titanic. Defrosted after 100 years frozen in that fateful iceberg, Barney is back to scour the streets of Belfast and seek out the finest food and drink modern-day Belfast has to offer whilst recounting stories of the Edwardian city he once knew.

Barney pounds the pavements to introduce you to some of Belfast’s biggest culinary champions. Keen to share their food stories, the app features video clips from:

- Kieran Sloan, proprietor of Sawers Deli
- James Neilly, chef at Mourne Seafood
- Gerry White, publican at the John Hewitt Bar
- Nick Price, NI food pioneer and owner of Nick’s Warehouse
- James Skeffington, Restaurant Supervisor at McHughs Bar

The tour finishes at St George’s Market, a fitting testament to the rich variety of small local producers, who together are making Northern Ireland’s food and drink culture a talking point across the world.

Along the way Barney will fill you in on Belfast’s eclectic culinary history: the ‘Fadgie’ fish-sellers; the origins of soda water, hot chocolate and ginger ale; philanthropist baker Barney Hughes and the inventor of the modern day tea-industry Samuel Davidson to name but a few.

You’ll recognise some familiar Belfast landmarks and stumble across some lesser-known attractions, depicted as you’ve never seen them before. Plus you’ll find discounts for the venues featured in the app so you can discover Northern Ireland’s great food and drink for yourself.

Written by Seth Linder, performed by Michael Lavery and directed by Kabosh’s Paula McFetridge, Belfast Bred originated as a culinary walking tour around Belfast city centre. A sell-out success in 2010 and 2011, the tour has been re-imagined as an app to bring Belfast’s food heritage straight to your mobile.

Developed by Kabosh and The Design Zoo, in association with Arts Council Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council.

“A revelation - a wonderful tour that will transform your perception of Belfast"- Sheila Dillon, The Food Programme, Radio 4
